MENASHA, WI (WTAQ) — An exotic animal surrender event will be held this weekend in Menasha.
There’s one rule at Habitattitude Exotic Pet Surrender: no questions asked.
John Moyles runs J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue, which is behind the event.
“We are focused on exotic pets,” Moyles said. “So anything that you would think of that lives in a cage or a fish tank.”
Foxes, rabbits, snakes, lizards, fish, and more are common turn-ins at the surrender events–and are what the group is prepared to take–but if you have something larger or, say, possibly illegal, they’ll work with you to handle that, too.
“In some communities, some animals might not be legal, and we don’t really care so much about that as long as you’re surrendering,” Moyles told WTAQ. “Our last event someone had a four-foot alligator that someone wanted to surrender…we [also] had a nine-foot python at one of our events.”
Both of those owners were helped. Moyles says they’ll work to find help for any exotic pet owner to surrender their animal, whether it be a ferret or a Bengal tiger.
The event will be held Saturday between noon and three at the Heckrodt Wetland Reserve in Menasha.
