GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — It could be a sign of things to come. A potential 2022 Gubernatorial Candidate has announced the formation of a new group designed to “create the next conservative agenda” for Wisconsin.
Former Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch announced the formation of the group, called the “1848 Project” on WTAQ’s ‘The Regular Joe Show’ on Tuesday, saying they’ll be forming a group to hold discussions across the state with voters.
“It’s really important to lead by listening,” Kleefisch told host Joe Giganti. “When you do that, you get really great ideas…”
The group is explicitly looking past the 2020 election with a specific emphasis on the state’s executive branch. Kleefisch criticized Governor Tony Evers as running a “reactive” rather and “proactive” administration.
“We need folks unified behind a policy agenda that I think is going to unify and lift up all of Wisconsin in 2022,” she said.
That’s when Governor Evers will be up for re-election.
Former Governor Scott Walker, who Kleefisch served under, has encouraged her to run for the Governor’s office, and she has publicly expressed interest in seeking elected office again. She stopped short of formally announcing a 2022 run on Tuesday.
“I am focused on the 2020 election,” said Kleefisch. “But after 2020 I think it’s important to be proactive.”
Kleefisch served as Wisconsin’s Lt. Governor between 2011 and 2019.
