WAUTOMA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The man who allegedly broke into a Waushara County church and caused extensive damage pleaded not guilty Friday.
Nathan Kozlowski, 26, also waived his preliminary hearing on five counts, including burglary, theft, and criminal damage to property. No trial date was set. He returns to court Oct. 6 for a status conference, court records show.
According to the criminal complaint, staff at Waushara Community Church in Marion discovered the damage Aug. 17 and called police.
“As the officers went through the church building with the pastors and business manager, extensive graffiti was found throughout the building with derogatory slurs against law enforcement and religion. The graffiti appears to have been spray painted on the walls,” the complaint says, without providing the specific wording.
Throughout the building, file cabinets were opened, doors were damaged, and rooms were ransacked.
Police used video to identify Kozlowski. When they located, the clothing and backpack matched images on the video.
The complaint offers no comments from Kozlowski, or any details for a possible motive.
