GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Republican Congressman Mike Gallagher is praising President Donald Trump’s visit to Kenosha.
Speaking on WTAQ’s “The Morning News with Matt and Earl”, Gallagher said the President’s trip was a good move.
“I’m glad he came to Kenosha,” Gallagher said Wednesday. “It seemed to go well. It seems that they had a productive conversation.”
He says the President’s response to the violence in that city last week made a difference.
“Thanks to his offer of assistance via the National Guard to Governor [Tony] Evers, we’ve been able to get a handle on the violence that was ravaging Kenosha,” he said.
Gallagher reserved much harsher words for Governor Evers and Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes, accusing both of fanning the flames of division.
“The governor’s rhetoric the night this started was abyssmal,” said Gallagher. “He poured fuel on the fire, immediately blaming the police while simultaneously admitting he didn’t know all the facts.”
Evers had put out a statement hours after the shooting that read, in part, “Jacob Blake was shot in the back multiple times, in broad daylight, in Kenosha. Kathy and I join his family, friends and neighbors in hoping earnestly that he will not succumb to his injuries. While we do not have all the details yet, what we know for certain is he is not the first Black man or person to have been shot or injured or mercilessly killed at the hands of individuals in law enforcement in our state or in our country.”
