GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Green Bay Police are dealing with more reports of political sign vandalism and theft.
Police Chief Andrew Smith says it’s not just that they’re seeing more of Political sign related crime this year than in previous election years–they’re seeing it a lot earlier, too.
“I would have expected something like this in past years to occur in middle or end of October as the campaign got heated and the rhetoric got heated, but now here we are in August,” Smith told WTAQ. ”
Two teenagers were caught on camera stealing a Trump 2020 flag from a porch over the weekend. Several people were also reportedly stealing Trump yard signs and burning them last week.
Smith says they will prosecute sign thieves and vandals and that stealing anything out of anyone’s yard is a crime, no matter whose sign it is.
