APPLETON (WTAQ-WLUK) — A house fire has left an Appleton resident displaced and a dog dead.
The Appleton Fire Department says it was called to the home in the 700 block of W. Lorain Street shortly before 2 p.m. Friday after a passerby discovered smoke coming from the house.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered heavy smoke in the home, with a fire in the living room.
The resident was not home at the time, according to the department.
Firefighters did find two dogs in the home. One of the dogs was not injured, however, the other dog did not survive despite firefighters’ efforts.
The fire is believed to have caused approximately $35,000 in damage, and the fire’s cause is under investigation.
