GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Green Bay Public School students won’t be sharing a real classroom with teachers and other kids for awhile.
The School Board voting to start the school year with virtual learning because of the on-going COVID 19 pandemic.
District Superintendent Stephen Murley pledges the kids education at home won’t suffer.
“We’re looking at opportunities to have support teams available well into the evening.”
Students will have technical assistance available in addition to help from teachers and counselors. Parents will also brought into the loop.
“One of our work teams has been talking about how we provide some level of professional development for parents and other members of the community who’ll be assisting students in this process.”
Murley says they’ve had time to review what worked and most importantly what didn’t, when the district went to virtual instruction back in March.
Students and parents should notice a positive difference.
“They can expect far more direct interaction with staff. More regular homework and response circuits as they get back and forth between teachers and students.”
Green Bay public schools plans to give age appropriate devices to all the district’s 21,000 students.
Right now, the criteria to start bringing kids back to school is a 14-day trend where Brown County’s positive test rate is five percent or lower.
