GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The CEO of Prevea Health says Wisconsin may need to close certain businesses again to get the spread of COVID-19 under control.
Dr. Ashok Rai theorized on WTAQ’s ‘The Morning News with Matt and Earl’ on Monday that sectors of the economy, notably indoor bars and restaurants, should perhaps be shut down again, saying they’re a major reason for continued Coronavirus spread.
“Without a plan the only other option is to shut back down, unless we can get people to agree that phasing in made sense… let’s say a bar or restaurant where they’re not doing the right thing, where people are packed in there, and they’re not wearing facial coverings,” Rai said Monday. “Those types of situations we know demonstrate spread.”
“In New York, you can eat outside and it works great. They kept their major breakout under control. We just need the state of Wisconsin to start to think that way,” he added.
There has been a jump in COVID-19 numbers in Wisconsin over the past several weeks, but those numbers are beginning to stabilize.
“I would say our trend line is flat,” Dr. Rai said. “Flat, but flat in a bad area, and sometimes increasing. It’s bouncing day by day.”
The seven-day average COVID-19 growth in Wisconsin stands at 844 according to the latest state data.
