WASHINGTON, DC (WTAQ-WLUK) — 8th District Republican congressman Mike Gallagher says he has questions as to where and when funds from the multi-trillion dollar CARES act passed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic have been spent, and he wants them answered before discussing additional funding.
“There is a a genuine debate that needs to be had about money that we allocated in the CARES act that that had not yet been spent,” Gallagher said Wednesday. “We still have a trillion dollars that hasn’t been obligated. Why are we now going to spend a trillion more on top of that?”
The Democratic-controlled house has pushed through measures adding additional pandemic related funding, although nothing has been passed by the Senate or signed into law. President Donald Trump has signaled support for additional coronavirus aid.
