OCONTO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The trial has been delayed, again, for a man who allegedly crashed his vehicle, killing a passenger.
Cade Wied, 19, faces five charges, including second-degree reckless homicide, for the December 2018 crash which killed September Deneys, in the town of Abrams.
His trial had been scheduled for Aug. 4. But in court Monday, it was delayed until Jan. 20, court records show.
The trial had been delayed once before, from April 7 to the August date, due to COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the criminal complaint, the vehicle left the roadway and struck two trees before coming to rest. Wied says he was driving about 55 mph, but the speed limit in that area was 45 mph. Data recovered from the car showed it was travelling at about 88 mph.
The night of the crash, Wied admitted he was driving. But in an interview a few days later, Wied claimed the girl who died was really the driver. Another passenger, however, says Wied was driving, according to the complaint.
