WINNEBAGO COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man who allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend was ordered Monday to stand trial.
Joel Rew, 27, faces eight counts including first-degree sexual assault, mayhem, battery, and false imprisonment. He waived a preliminary hearing Monday. Arraignment is scheduled for July 29, court records show.
According to the criminal complaint, Rew and the victim had broken off their relationship, but were still living together.
Early in the morning of July 1, the two got into an argument. Rew allegedly kicked her repeatedly with steel-toed boots, cut her hair and back, tried to strangle her with an extension cord, and used curtain rod like a tourniquet on her hands. He also sexually assault her, the complaint states.
While he was showering, she wrapped herself in towels and went to a neighbor’s house for help, the complaint states.
“Although officers asked him what had happen, well before he was ever in their custody, the Defendant remained silent, sitting on the driveway in front of the garage door with his head hung low the whole time. Once he was in their custody, the Defendant advised that “it wouldn’t do any good” to answer officers’ questions and that he wanted to speak with an attorney,” according to the complaint.
