BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Brown County Health and Human Services, along with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, are partnering with the UW-Madison Survey of the Health of Wisconsin to conduct a study that examines the presence of COVID-19 in the state.
The goal of the study is to determine the prevalence of COVID-19 antibodies throughout the state. Antibodies indicate if a person has been infected with the virus in the past, even if they did not experience symptoms.
“These studies are going to provide public health experts with a better understanding of where COVID-19 has been and help identify communities that may be at risk for future outbreaks. This research will be a valuable tool for informing best practices while maximizing containment efforts,” Brown County Public Health Officer Anna Destree said in a news release.
Antibody testing helps in understanding how many people were infected with the virus, however, it does not provide information regarding the current amount of positive cases and is not an alternative to diagnostic testing, according to the release.
Study participants will receive antibody testing quarterly over the course of the next year. All participants have already been chosen, according to the release.
Anyone interested in antibody testing requirements and availability in Brown County is asked to contact a primary care provider.
