SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Shawano School District Board of Education is asking one of its board members to resign after comments made on social media about George Floyd.
The school board held an emergency meeting tonight, where they voted to ask for the resignation of board member Mart Grams.
The board says Grams used racially derogatory language and made inappropriate comments about Floyd, including one that said “George Floyd has been drug-free for two months now.”
Floyd died while in police custody on Memorial Day.
School board president Tyler Schmidt says he has received numerous complaints about the post locally and worldwide.
In the vote, all of the board members voted to censure Grams and denounce the comments, saying they were made by Grams as an individual, and asking that Grams resign immediately.
Grams was not at tonight’s emergency board meeting, and hasn’t commented on the vote.
