TOWN OF HARTLAND, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A mother apparently drowned, but her son is safe after an incident Wednesday near Bonduel.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to Happy Lane in the Town of Hartland just after 7 a.m. A caller reported a “child running naked” in the area.
Deputies found the boy, a 9-year-old with autism, and called in the county’s human services office for help determining where he came from.
About two hours later, someone reported a suspicious vehicle at a property on Happy Lane. After searching the area, crews found the body of a 33-year-old woman from Appleton in a pond near where the vehicle was found. Investigators determined she was the boy’s mother.
Sheriff’s officials believe the woman’s death was an accidental drowning, though the investigation continues as authorities wait for autopsy results.
