GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich is telling President Donald Trump that hospitality in Green Bay has its limitations.
Genrich posted a letter to the President on Facebook Wednesday night.
The president is visiting Green Bay and Marinette Thursday.
He will arrive at Austin Straubel Airport, hold a town hall and then head to Marinette Marine for a speech to workers.
In his letter, Genrich talks about Green Bay’s immigrant heritage and its instinct toward hospitality. But, he says “we don’t tolerate intolerance or willful ignorance, and we won’t endorse or ignore divisive and bigoted rhetoric”.
Green Bay Alderman Chris Wery responded with an open letter of his own:
Dear President Trump,
Welcome to Wisconsin, and welcome to Green Bay!
Allow me to greet you more warmly and genuinely than the backhanded effort our mayor put forth.
We appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule to visit our city and to hold a town hall meeting. Please know Green Bay stands ready to work with you to make our great nation even greater.
Sincerely,
Alderman Chris Wery
City of Green Bay
President Trump is scheduled to arrive at Austin Straubel International Airport in time to take part in a Town Hall meeting with Fox’s Sean Hannity. That closed session is set to begin at 1:30.
After that the President will helicopter to Marinette where he will tour the shipyard at Marinette Marine before coming back to Green Bay and flying out late today.
