GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Local election leaders in the City of Green Bay say the November 3 midterm overall went well with minimal issues; save for some minor paper jams in the ballot tabulators that were quickly fixed. Additionally, some polling places had a higher turnout than expected and needed to add more booths, and more ballots needed to be brought to some locations.
Green Bay City Clerk Stacy Menke says this election has been unique.
“I think it’s unique because of all the talk around politics right now,” she said. “There’s so many conversations, and I feel like a lot more people feel like they have a dog in this fight.”
Several voters at the Green Bay Water utility said voting, especially now, is extremely important.
“You need to have your voice heard, and you can’t complain if you don’t vote,” said one voter.
“It’s our future. Children don’t have a voice, so we have to be that voice for our children just like our parents were for us,” said another.
“Because of the state America is in right now, and the state of people’s minds right now,” added another.
WTAQ also asked about what issues are most important to them.
“I’m a firm believer in following the constitution the way it was intended,” said a Green Bay voter.
“Data centers are important [to consider] with who, and what, you’re voting for,” added another voter.
“I don’t think that women, children, men, should be taken off the streets by masked men,” said a voter.
During Tuesday’s election, the Department of Justice had officials in all 50 states. Madison and Milwaukee were among the cities being monitored. Federal officials were not reported in Green Bay. The DOJ says the move is to protect voting rights and ensure election integrity.
All newly elected officials, including governor-elect David Crowley, will begin their terms in January.
