GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A place for local artists and art collectors to come together is open for business in Green Bay’s Broadway District.
BAVA Gallery Cooperative cut the ribbon during its open house Friday.
The Dousman Street gallery is Green Bay’s newest destination for 100% hand-made local art, providing a space where regional fine and functional artists connect directly with collectors and the community.
The artist-owned cooperative showcases wall art, sculpture, wood, ceramics, home decor, and hand-crafted gifts across a wide range of price points.
Right now 15 artists run the gallery and sell their art there. Because it’s artist-owned, artists keep 90% of the sales from their pieces.
BAVA vice president of the board Ellen Melberg says it’s a win-win for artists in the co-op and for art lovers in the community to get a better deal on original art.
“We really wanted to be in this area because we really felt we were lacking this in downtown Green Bay so that’s really why we chose the Broadway District and we’re really happy that this is where we landed,” Melberg said. “We looked at several properties and we looked at this historic building, we love bringing this old dormant place to life so it was a good fit for us.”
