(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) STORRS, CONN – The Marquette University volleyball team (6-5, 1-0 BIG EAST) opened BIG EAST play with a sweep of UConn (7-7, 0-1 BIG EAST) Friday evening at the UConn Volleyball Center.
Marquette hit .389 as a team with 46 kills and just 11 errors while holding UConn to a .182 hitting percentage. Carson Tyler led the Golden Eagles with 13 kills and two service aces, while Caydence Doolan added 10 kills on .444 hitting and Tani Juric posted nine kills at a .471 clip. Luanna Markus dished out 36 assists and Emi Juric led the defensive effort with 12 digs.
Marquette held an early 10-7 advantage before UConn used a 5-0 run to move in front, 12-10. The Golden Eagles responded to regain an 18-16 edge, but the Huskies answered again and took a 20-19 lead. From there, MU scored six of the final eight points, with Caydence Doolan putting Marquette ahead for good at 22-21. Carson Tyler followed with a service ace and later finished the frame with her eighth kill to secure the 25-22 opening-set victory.
Marquette fell behind 8-3 early in the second set before using a 9-4 stretch to even the frame at 12. The Golden Eagles took their first lead since the opening point at 13-12 and later broke a 14-all tie with four straight points, capped by a Carson Tyler service ace. MU continued to pull away, extending its advantage to 23-16 behind kills from Caydence Doolan, Luanna Markus and Tani Juric. Juric brought up set point with her fourth kill of the frame before a UConn attack error sealed the 25-17 set victory.
Marquette jumped out to a 4-1 lead before UConn responded to even the frame at 4. The Golden Eagles then took control, using a 10-2 stretch to build a 14-6 advantage behind two kills apiece from Caydence Doolan and Julia Stanev. UConn pulled within 18-13, but MU answered with four straight points and closed out the match on a Doolan kill for the 25-15 set victory to seal the match.

- MU won their 13th-straight against UConn and improves to 17-3 all-time against the Huskies, including a 7-2 mark in Storrs
- Marquette has won 14 consecutive matches against UConn and improves to 17-3 all-time against the Huskies. MU has not lost to UConn since Oct. 9, 2009.
- The Golden Eagles have swept UConn in four consecutive meetings and have won each of the last 12 sets in the series.
- Marquette hit.389 (46-11-90) in the victory, its second-best hitting percentage of the season behind a .396 mark at Wright State on Aug. 29.

- Marquette has won three consecutive matches for the first time this season and has swept each of its last two opponents, Milwaukee and UConn.
- The Golden Eagles recorded seven service aces, marking their fifth consecutive match with at least six aces. Tyler and Allie Beers led MU with two apiece.
- Carson Tyler recorded 13 kills and continued her double-digit kill streak, recording the mark in all 11 matches this season and every match dating back to Oct. 28, 2025.
- Emi Juric continued her double-digit digs streak, reaching the mark in her seventh-straight match and the 10th of 11 matches this season with 12 digs
- Caydence Doolan continued her recent surge with 10 kills on .444 hitting, marking her second double-digit kill performance in the last three matches. She has totaled 34 kills over MU’s last three contests after entering the St. Thomas match with just six kills on the season.
- Tani Juric finished with nine kills and just one error on 17 attacks for a .471 hitting percentage. Over her last two matches, Juric has totaled 18 kills with only two attack errors, hitting.500 (18-2-32).
- Freshman setter Luanna Markus dished out 36 assists as Marquette hit .389. Markus, who entered Friday leading the BIG EAST at 9.15 assists per set, has recorded at least 30 assists in nine of 11 matches this season.
