GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Green Bay Common Council gave its members an update Tuesday night on the investigation into the city’s election practices.
The city had to submit a plan to the Wisconsin Elections Commission last week to ensure only one absentee ballot is mailed.
It came after duplicate ballots were sent for the April and August elections.
During the meeting, the city attorney confirmed no duplicate ballots from the April or August elections were sent to Central Count.
The city attorney also clarified that if ballots need to be reprinted, it will be through a multi-step process.
Meaning no one person, regardless of position, can reprint ballot labels.
There is no timeline for the WEC to respond to the city’s plan.
The city attorney noted at least for the August election, former city clerk Celestine Jeffreys believed labels were missing from a box and that’s why she reprinted them.
They were in fact already being processed, not missing.
During the meeting, at least two council members thanked Jeffreys for her service.
Mayor Eric Genrich and a council member reminded residents there’s no evidence of misconduct affecting Green Bay’s election results.
