GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A downtown Green Bay space aims to help launch the next wave of small businesses.
On Wednesday, Green Bay declared its participation as a founding city in “America the Entrepreneurial,” a national campaign to increase entrepreneurial activity.
The announcement came in front of the former Erbert & Gerberts at 226 N. Washington Street, where the new home of a shared commercial kitchen will be.
Business owner, Melanie Bradshaw-Motiff, says the idea of Kindred Kitchen came to her while she was trying to startup her ice cream business, Kindred Scoops.
“The existing options just weren’t fulfilling what we needed and they weren’t designed for us just starting out and we were really close to giving up but the more people I talked to, the more I realized, we were not the only ones in this position. There were so many people around the city, looking for a shared kitchen space. Small folks who were bakers, sauce makers and caterers and somebody wanting to start a matcha cart and meal prep business and everybody was so excited to bring their product to the community but wasn’t sure where to start,” Bradshaw-Motiff said.
Entrepreneurs will be able to use the commercial kitchen space in order start and grow their small business.
Kindred Kitchen can also offer entrepreneurs a retail space where people can make and sell their products and eventually bring them to markets and events, Bradshaw-Motiff explained.
She said she hopes that some of the next great Green Bay businesses come out of Kindred Kitchen.
According to Right to Start, the nonprofit behind “America the Entrepreneurial,” says every 1% increase in entrepreneurial activity in a state correlates with a 2% decline in poverty.
