(WTAQ-WLUK) — Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley is dropping out of the governor’s race.
The Democrat announced Wednesday that he is ending his campaign.
“It has become clear that I will not be the Democratic nominee for Governor, so today I am stepping out of this race, but I am not stepping away from the work,” Crowley said in a statement. “Politics should not be about who talks the loudest. It’s about showing up, working with anyone who wants to solve the problem, and delivering results people can see in their own communities. That’s how I’ve governed in Milwaukee County, and that’s how I’ll keep governing.”
The end of Crowley’s campaign leaves five candidates left in the Democratic primary race: Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez, State Rep. Francesca Hong, State Sen. Kelda Roys, former Department of Administration secretary Joel Brennan and former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes.
The winner of the Aug. 11 primary will go on to face presumptive Republican nominee Tom Tiffany in November.
Current Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat, is not seeking re-election.
