TOWN OF GROVER, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Work to rebuild a Marinette County gentlemen’s club is underway after a devastating fire nearly destroyed it earlier this year.
The owners refused to walk away after someone intentionally set the blaze.
From the front, Northpoint Exotic Dance Club, located just outside of Peshtigo, looks open and ready for business. But take a walk around the back and you’ll see the building is charred. The inside is gutted, too.
“All of our customers are family. Our entertainers are all kind of family. So, it’s just affected a lot of people in the community, not being up and running,” said owner Billie Ransom.
The club has been closed ever since a fire ripped through it. On the early morning hours of Jan. 8, an employee inside the club noticed smoke.
According to Ransom, “We still had like 12 or 15 people in the bar here, and my bartender all of a sudden saw smoke. The whole bar just filling up with smoke. My manager was in the back, so she called him and was like, ‘There’s all this smoke coming from the air conditioning area.’ And he came out here and the whole place just filled up.”
Ransom said while someone called 911, others tried to put the fire out. Crews eventually arrived, but the damage was already done.
An investigation into the fire, according to the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office, determined the blaze was set intentionally.
“They had found that the propane gauge was taken off and that’s actually how the fire was lit. So, it is deemed arson at this time,” said Ransom.
Northpoint’s owners had to wait for the investigation to be finished and their insurance company to be notified before they could focus on reopening. Now, work is underway to rebuild as they look to live by their new motto.
“Ashes to a**es is gonna be our thing. We’re waiting for the a**es to get back, so it’ll be interesting to see that go. See the ashes go away and the a**es come in,” said Ransom.
She said contractors told her it could take up to three months to complete the renovation work, but she’s hoping to reopen sooner than that.
