OSHKOSH, WI (WLUK) — A 17-year old Oshkosh resident suffered non-life threatening injuries following a shooting Saturday night near the UW-Oshkosh campus.
The suspect, a 23-year old man from Omro, was taken into custody less than an hour after the shooting.
The incident happened around 7 p.m. in the area of McKinley Avenue and John Street, in the City of Oshkosh. Officers were already in the area working due to an unsanctioned pub crawl when they heard the shots fired.
With the help of the the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, officers from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Police Department, and troopers from the Wisconsin State Patrol, an extensive search for suspect began immediately. A drone and multiple K-9s helped in the search.
Just before 8 p.m. the suspect who was described as a white male wearing a navy blue sweatshirt and sweatpants with a black baseball cap was seen trying to leave the area. Officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop at Jackson Street and Irving Avenue and took the man into custody.
The investigation remains active and and criminal charges are pending.
