FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A 4-year-old child fatally shot a 2-year-old sibling Friday morning in Fond du Lac County.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says it received a 911 call to the scene in Lamartine just before 10:30 a.m. A sheriff’s deputy and first responder began lifesaving efforts on the scene. However, the child died.
Preliminary investigation showed three young children were placed in a vehicle in the driveway of their home. The parent returned to the house to retrieve a forgotten item. In that time, the 4-year-old found a loaded gun in the center console. The gun fired, hitting the 2-year-old.
A sheriff’s office chaplain and crisis social worker were called to the scene.
The family is cooperating in the ongoing investigation, the sheriff’s office says.
