HOWARD, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin Swim Academy held a groundbreaking ceremony at the future site of its Howard-Suamico facility.
The 7,000 square foot facility will offer a heated swimming pool in a temperature controlled room and a 1,500 square foot toddler tumbling program.
Jack Van Ekeren is the general manager at Wisconsin Swim Academy. He said about the groundbreaking, “It’s really exciting. It’s a lot of hard work that the team has put in, and so it’s really exciting to see it finally kinda culminate to a starting point now and we’re excited to see where it goes in the final product.”
Wisconsin Swim Academy plans to offer programs for all ages at the Howard-Suamico facility. Three of them are swim classes and the other is the tumbling program:
- Parent, infant and toddler swim classes. These are meant to teach water safety and foundational swim skills.
- Children’s programs. These will be structured lessons teaching water safety and advanced stroke development.
- Adult and swim team readiness lessons. These lessons will be available for teens and adults for all skill levels.
- Sweet Peas toddler tumbling. This movement-based program is designed support early childhood development through play, balancing, and climbing.
Swimming and tumbling might seem unrelated at first glance, but according to Van Ekeren, “They actually have a lot of the same benefits. So they have a lot of the same things they help kiddos with — fine motor control, spatial awareness, cognitive development — all sorts of things.”
The academy chose the site because it wanted to serve the greater Green Bay area. It will also be near sites such as the Howard Commons and the West Side YMCA, allowing the academy to join them in offering recreational opportunities.
The Howard-Suamico facility is scheduled to open in fall at 2920 Riverview Drive.
