GREEN BAY (WTAQ-WLUK) — Chris Taylor appears set to be a new justice for the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Unofficial results show Taylor ran away with the race and secured roughly 60 percent of the vote as of late last night.
The liberal candidate was taking on her colleague on the state Appeals Court, Maria Lazar.
Her victory means the liberal side of the bench will have control of the state’s high court until at least 2030.
The race is officially non-partisan.
Taylor told supporters last night Lazar had called to concede, and then thanked the voters who backed her up in the contest.
Meanwhile, in Green Bay, voters have elected their next common council.
In District 4, Jon Shelton defeated Jessica Radunzel. In District 9, Ben DeBaker defeated Tarl Knight.
Three of the 12 races are unopposed incumbents. They are:
- Bill Morgan, District 3
- Alyssa Proffitt, District 7
- Melinda Eck, District 11
In the other seven races, incumbents won all but one seat on the council. The winners are:
- District 1 – Jennifer Grant
- District 2 – Jim Hutchison
- District 5 – Doug Orlowski (defeated incumbent Craig Stevens)
- District 6 – Joey Prestley
- District 8 – Jim Ridderbush
- District 10 – Ben Delie
- District 12 – Kathy Hinkfuss
The new council will have its first meeting on April 21.
