ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Brown County Board of Supervisors candidate has concerns about an A.I. data center coming to Ashwaubenon.
However, according to the village there’s nothing to worry about.
Jacob Toll posted a video on Facebook directed at Village of Ashwaubenon administration sharing concerns about the possibility of a data center coming to the village. Toll is running for District 22 on the Brown County Board.
“Your actions are saying ‘hey I’ve already got a deal in place with these AI data centers and Jacob Toll is making too much noise and is going to screw that up for me,'” Toll said.
In his video, Toll also said he believes the village is trying to silence his talk on data centers.
If elected to county board, Toll said he wants to put a moratorium on the village to help prevent data centers from being built.
“I’m not gonna stop fighting for my neighbors. I don’t want their livelihoods ruined by these AI data centers. I’m gonna keep fighting every day of my life for their betterment and if you’re not willing to do that, then get the hell out of the way and let me do it,” Toll said.
The village of Ashwaubenon calls Toll’s claims ‘false’ and ‘misinformation.’ Additionally, Village President Mary Kardoskee said there’s not enough open space for a data center to be built in Ashwaubenon.
“We have not talked to anybody about a data center. I have not signed a non-disclose agreement. And I’ve heard concerns from my residents that are hearing this and saying, ‘is this coming and are you doing this?’ And the answer to that, is no,” Kardoskee said.
Kardoskee said she understands discussion around data centers is a controversial topic.
She worries false information about a data center coming to Ashwaubenon will put people on edge.
“I don’t know where they got that information, but I urge anybody to call me at any time and come in and talk to me because there is nothing in the works on that,” Kardoskee said.
Wisconsin law generally limits counties’ authority to impose moratoria within municipalities.
This means the Village of Ashwaubenon itself must pass a moratorium.
