TWO RIVERS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Design is the main the focus of a discussion about redeveloping 14 acres of land in Two Rivers.
The site used to house Hamilton Manufacturing, which closed in 2012 after more than 130 years in operation. Thursday was the third session of phase three in “Hamilton Community Visioning” plan.
“It’s very much in the middle of everything and people really care about it. So, it’s a little different than a typical redevelopment site,” said Two Rivers City Manager Kyle Kordell.
As for some of the community ideas, Curt Andrews said, “We have housing issues, so I see the possibility of housing on there. I see the possibility of leveraging the waterfront, so maybe possibly a marina. Condos could be a good thing as well, and retail.”.
Feedback from the community is being compiled by urban design students from UW-Green Bay, who will create designs for the community to vote on later this summer.
“They’re up-and-coming students in this world, in the urban design world, and they’re ready to sink their teeth into a real community project like this, and it’s free for the city. They’re getting class credit for doing this work for us. So, it’s a good partnership to get the next generation involved,” said Kordell.
Kordell said the next step is getting in touch with adjacent neighborhoods. He said that’s so they understand the potential impact of what the city will be proposing.
