GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The 2026 shipping season has officially began this week in the Port of Green Bay with the arrival of the Algocanada.
The 129.84 meter-long vessel arrived on Monday at 10:42 a.m. carrying a shipment of petroleum products. It’s capacity is 11,453 tons.
With the arrival of the Algocanada the First Ship Contest has officially concluded. The winner of this year’s contest is Chad Peters of Sagola, Michigan. Peters guessed that the first ship would arrive at 11:45 a.m. on March 23, with the actual arrival occurring only an hour earlier.
Peters will receive a one-night stay at Hotel Northland, a Port of Green Bay swag bag, a 200th Anniversary Brown County Monopoly Game, four admission tickets to N.E.W. museums and dinner for two at The Depot.
The 2026 shipping season kicked off a week later than last season.
For those interested in ship watching, the Fox River Trail and Green Bay Metro Boat Launch, along with other areas down the Lower Fox River, often offer a great view of incoming vessels. Port security requirements do not allow public access to any port property.
