APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — After being transferred last year from the Weis Earth Science Museum at the former UW-Oshkosh Fox Cities Campus, several mineralogical artifacts will soon be on display at The History Museum at the Castle in Appleton as part of the Prehistoric Wisconsin exhibit.
It’s the first major exhibit since the transfer. History Museum at the Castle executive director Dustin Mack says this exhibit features ‘the best’ artifacts from the Weis.
The display will be here for 3-5 years.
“Then as that time goes by, we’ll be looking at ways we can really upgrade this exhibit and produce something brand new and exciting for the community in order to continue to tell this rich history,” said Mack.
The new gallery will highlight fossils, ancient environments, and the natural history of Wisconsin.
However, some small items from the Weis have been on display for a few months now.
The response has been overwhelmingly positive. One of the groups that’s most excited is school groups. Now in one field trip they can learn history and natural history all in one stop. We’ve got these experts on our staff now who can really explain to the kids why these things are important, and the relevance to their lives.
The Prehistoric Wisconsin exhibit opens to the public on March 26.
