(WTAQ-WLUK) — The Brown County Sheriff’s Office says it was busy during winter storms earlier this week.
The two-day storm was the second worst winter storm in the area’s history, with snowfall totals ranging from 20 to 30 inches across most of the county.
The sheriff’s office, along with other emergency and essential services, worked throughout the blizzard to protect the community and provide assistance. Severe weather conditions on Sunday and Monday made response efforts more difficult than usual.
The county released its storm response summary Wednesday:
- 304 total calls for service (52% increase from the previous week)
- 213 weather-related calls (70% of total), including: 193 motorist assists (vehicles stuck, drivers needing help) 14 crashes (2 with injuries) 6 hazards (fallen trees, downed power lines)
A temporary tow ban was in place during the storm and has now been lifted.
Due to impassable roads, deputies used specialized heavy vehicles to reach stranded motorists and respond to emergencies when standard patrol vehicles could not operate safely.
The sheriff’s office commended its patrol deputies for their dedication and service during this storm. They also thanked Brown County Highway Department plow operators, municipal plow crews across the county and Brown County Public Safety Communications Center staff.
