Caiden Stachowicz is convicted in Fond du Lac County court, Nov. 10, 2025. PC: Fox 11 Online
FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Caiden Stachowicz was sentenced Thursday to seven years in prison for setting fire to U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman’s Fond du Lac office.
Stachowicz, 20, previously pleaded no contest to arson for the Jan. 19, 2025 fire at the strip mall office.
He was also sentenced to seven years on extended supervision by Judge Tricia Walker.
Before the sentence was issued, Stachowicz read a statement apologizing to Grothman, first responders and the building’s owner.
Rep. Grothman was not at the hearing.
According to the criminal complaint, Stachowicz admitted to attempting to break into the congressional office on Jan. 19 in order to set the fire. When that didn’t work, he wanted to pour gasoline outside the building from the back to the front. Strong winds and fear of injuring himself led Stachowicz to simply light an electrical box in the back of the building on fire, the complaint says.
Prosecutors say Stachowicz was upset over Grothman’s vote in favor of the short-lived ban on TikTok.
