GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Green Bay Police Department says they’re looking into an alleged bullying incident and threat at St. Bernard Catholic School.
Last week, a Facebook post from a family member of a St. Bernard student has received a lot of attention on social media. It made serious accusations against fellow students of causing injury and threatening to bring a gun to school.
Following the allegations, the principal of St. Bernard sent a letter to families Wednesday. It says, “This week, inappropriate student comments were reported. As we addressed the situation promptly, some misinformation began circulating, which has understandably caused concern.”
The letter continues, “Please be assured, St. Bernard School is safe. At this time, there is no active threat to our students, staff or the orderly operation of our school. We are working with all families involved.”
The letter goes on to say the school consulted with local law enforcement to support the families involved outside of school, and the students involved in the alleged incident are not in school.
The school issued the following statement to families:
Dear St. Bernard School Families,
We are writing to follow up and provide reassurance regarding safety in our school.
The ongoing situation from this week has been thoroughly reviewed. We have followed our established procedures, involved the appropriate authorities when necessary, and taken the steps required to address the matter responsibly. Based on this review and consultation, there are no ongoing safety concerns.
While we are limited in what we can share due to student confidentiality, please know that he students involved are not currently in school. Appropriate steps have been taken in alignment with our policies and guidance from authorities.
At this time, our campus remains safe and secure. We continue to maintain regular supervision, follow all safety protocols, and partner with appropriate authorities as needed. There are no additional precautions families need to take moving forward.
The well-being of our students – academically, emotionally, and spiritually- is always our highest priority. As a Catholic school community, we remain grounded in our faith and committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment where our children can learn and grow in peace.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. We value our partnership and are grateful for your continued trust and support.
In Christ,
Kimberly A. Desotell, GRACE President
GBPD says that they have taken a report on the incident and are looking into the allegations.
A spokesperson for the department says, “Once reviewed, we will then decide what enforcement action, if any, can be taken. With this being an active case involving juveniles, we cannot release additional details.”
