Series With Hoyas Dates Back To 1941-42
Marquette owns a 25-15 advantage in the all-time series, with the Golden Eagles claiming wins in 15 of the last 19 outings, including eight of the last nine games.
All but two of the series matchups have come since Marquette joined the BIG EAST in 2005-06.
The programs first met during the 1941-42 campaign and the Hoyas were able to claim a 35-34 victory. The next meeting didn’t come until the 1971-72 season and Marquette posted an 88-44 winning decision.
The Hoyas claimed a 78-69 win over the Golden Eagles at Fiserv Forum on Dec. 17, 2025 in the BIG EAST opener for both teams. The Georgetown victory snapped an eight-game winning streak in the series for Marquette.
MU Enters Home Stretch Of Regular Season
Fresh off the team’s second bye during the BIG EAST campaign, the Golden Eagles enter the final stretch of the regular season on Tuesday night at Georgetown.
Marquette has four games remaining on the calendar, two on the road and two at home, before traveling to Madison Square Garden for the BIG EAST tourney March 11-14.
After playing 6-of-9 on the road between Jan. 13 and Feb. 18, Marquette will alternate home-and-away outings the rest of the way. The team will have at least three chances (at Georgetown, at Providence, at BIG EAST tourney) to pick up its first road/neutral win of the season and the squad will honor seniors Chase Ross and Ben Gold in the regular-season finale on March 7 against nationally ranked UConn at Fiserv Forum.
James Jr. One Of BIG EAST’s Top Performers
A three-time BIG EAST Freshman of the Week and BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll selection (including Feb. 22), guard Nigel James Jr. is proving to be one of the league’s top players, regardless of class.
The BIG EAST Freshman of the Year candidate has reached double figures in scoring in 15-of-16 league outings and ranks among the conference’s top-10 in five-different categories (season long and BIG EAST only).
James Jr. is also one of just two freshmen (Keaton Wagler – Illinois) in the nation to contribute at least 19.0 points, 5.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds per outing in conference matchups through games of Feb. 22.
