(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) DETROIT – The Green Bay men’s basketball team dropped a Horizon League road game on Sunday, losing to Detroit Mercy 74-70 at Calihan Hall.
Preston Ruedinger led the Phoenix (16-14, 11-8) with 19 points, six assists, and three steals. C.J. O’Hara added 17 points and four steals. Justin Allen also contributed with 17 points.
Orlando Lovejoy led Detroit Mercy (14-13, 11-7) with a game-high 33 points. Lance Stone was the only other Titans player to hit double-figures with 10 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 14-12, Green Bay went on a 6-0 run with 11:23 left in the first half, culminating in a three-pointer from Hall, to take an 18-14 lead. Detroit Mercy stormed back to take a 25-24 lead after a Stone three with 2:53 left in the half. The Titans maintained that lead, going up 31-28 at the end of the first half.
Detroit Mercy continued to widen its lead after intermission, constructing a 58-53 advantage before Green Bay went on a 7-0 run, finished off by another Hall three,to take a 60-58 lead with 7:22 to go in the contest. The two teams then traded leads down the stretch, before Lovejoy converted a three-point play with 1:56 left to give the Titans a 72-70 lead. The Phoenix had chances to tie or take the lead in the final minutes but was unable to get a timely basket. Legend Geeter made two free throws in the final seconds to seal the 74-70 win for Detroit Mercy.

» The Phoenix shot well from three-point range, knocking down eight of 19 long-range attempts.
» Preston Ruedinger, C.J. O’Hara, and Justin Allen combined to account for 76 percent of the Phoenix points.
» Marcus Hall and Preston Ruedinger each led Green Bay with five rebounds.

Green Bay returns home to face Youngstown State on Saturday for the final home game of the regular season. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. CST at the Kress Center.
