APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A man arrested for operating while intoxicated allegedly rear-ended a vehicle, rolled over his own and then fled on foot from law enforcement.
The Appleton Police Department detailed the incident in a Facebook post Thursday.
According to authorities, APD was dispatched to the intersection of College Avenue and Mason Street for a reported crash. One of the vehicles involved had rolled over and was on its roof, and the driver of that vehicle was running from the scene.
A traffic camera captured the crash, police say. It showed the driver traveling north on Mason St. towards the intersection of Mason and College Ave. Other vehicles at that intersection were stopped for a red light. The driver appeared to rear end one of the vehicles that were stopped “without even slowing down” before the crash, which then caused his vehicle to roll onto its roof.
When police located the fleeing operator, they observed signs of impairment. He refused to perform field sobriety tests. Due to three prior OWI convictions, the man was subject to a .02 restriction. Additionally, his driver’s license was revoked.
The man was arrested for his fourth OWI offense and operating while revoked and taken to the Outagamie County Jail. A preliminary breath test showed a reading of .200.
