(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) MURRAY, KY – The Green Bay softball team dropped a doubleheader in day two of the Velvet Milkman Classic at Murray State, losing to South Dakota State 16-7 and North Dakota 9-4 on Friday.
GAME 1 | South Dakota State 16, Green Bay 7
Morgan Kostecka (0-3) started and took the loss in the circle for Green Bay.
Sidney LaMotte went 1-for-2 at the plate with a home run in addition to her three RBIs, and Emma Krueger put together a 1-for-2 day with a home run and three RBIs. Gracie Anderson also went 1-for-3 with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix scored four runs immediately, with Brooke Schwall starting it off with a sacrifice fly, scoring Katherine Filkowski. Krueger’s homerun also came in the first inning, plating three more Phoenix runners to give them a 4-0 lead after the bottom of the first inning.
The Jackrabbits responded with five runs of their own in the top of the second, immediately taking the lead. They added one more in the third and three more in the fourth to take a 9-4 lead.
Green Bay battled back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of LaMotte, tightening the Jackrabbits’ lead to 9-7. The Phoenix was unable to get any closer, as South Dakota State added seven runs in the final two innings to cruise to a 16-7 win.

GAME 2 | North Dakota 9, Green Bay 4
Jasmyn Trigueros (0-4) started in game two and took the loss in the circle for Green Bay.
Sara Ebner led GB offensively, going 2-for-3 with an RBI triple and a run scored. LaMotte also had two hits, and Filkowski added a hit, RBI, and run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
North Dakota took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning via an Aleksia Severson three RBI double. The Phoenix responded with four runs of its own in the top of the third inning, highlighted by an RBI triple from Ebner, an RBI double from Filkowski, and a dropped foul ball that scored Filkowski. Aidyn Messmann gave the Phoenix a 4-3 lead on a sacrifice fly later in the inning.
The Fighting Hawks ripped off five runs over the next three innings to put the game out of reach, leading to their 9-4 victory.
GAME NOTES

» Unity Nelson pitched 5.1 innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs to earn the win for North Dakota.
