GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — No further issues were detected over the weekend after thousands of gallons of wastewater leaked in downtown Green Bay, sewerage officials said.
Cleanup of the wastewater was completed by 5 p.m. Friday, NEW Water said. Monitoring continued throughout the weekend and into Monday morning. All locations remained stable.
On Friday, NEW Water estimated 8,560 gallons of wastewater were released. Of that, about 2,200 gallons entered the storm sewer system or the East River.
The leak came during work on a downtown sewer project. NEW Water said it is working with the contractor to ensure appropriate measures are taken before the bypass system is put back into service.
“NEW Water is grateful to all for assistance, and patience as this issue is resolved,” officials said in a news release Monday.
