OSHKOSH (WTAQ-WLUK) — An Oshkosh home suffered thousands of dollars in damage following a Friday afternoon fire.
According to a press release, Oshkosh fire crews were dispatched to 4470 Island View Drive just after 3 p.m. Friday afternoon for reports of a garage fire. Crews were notified that the lone occupant inside the building could not self-rescue.
” [The] Oshkosh Police Department and a neighbor were able to rescue the lone occupant before the Oshkosh Fire Department’s arrival,” the press release says.
When fire crews arrived, they could see smoke coming from the attached garage. Responders say the fire started in the garage and spread to the attic space over the garage and into the living area.
Crews entered the garage for an interior fire attack and were able to control it quickly, the release states.
There were no injuries or fatalities. The cause of the fire is said to be accidental.
The damage costs are estimated at $150,000 due to heavy smoke, fire and water damage.
