APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Rolando Valenzuela-Barrera was charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide for allegedly repeatedly stabbing his wife Sunday in the face and chest.
Barrera was ordered held on a $1 million cash bond. A preliminary hearing was not immediately set.
While arguing bond, Outagamie County Assistant District Attorney Isaac Lenz noted Valenzuela-Barrera has been deported at least twice previously, although he did not say to where. Lenz did not say if federal authorities have placed a detainer on him in this case.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a residence on Graceland Avenue early Sunday morning. The victim suffered wounds to her face, wrists and chest.
The two were arguing about their relationship when Valenzuela-Barrera stabbed the woman multiple times, witnesses told police.
Valenzuela-Barrera admitted to the stabbing, telling police, “Yes, I am very regretful because I hurt the woman I’ve loved for so many years,” the complaint states.
