Tou Vang (Brown Co. Jail)
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The suspect in a 2020 standoff and shootout with police on Green Bay’s east side was convicted Tuesday in a plea deal which resolved several cases dating to 2018.
Tou Vang, 34, was convicted of ten counts, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide. More than a dozen counts were dismissed. Sentencing is scheduled for April 20.
As part of the agreement, the state agrees to ask for 20 years in prison, court records show.
According to the criminal complaint, Green Bay officers knew Vang was wanted for prior incidents and saw him driving on the city’s east side. A Dec. 27, 2020, chase ensued, eventually ending on W. Walnut Street.
Video of the incident shows “what appears to be the left arm of Vang comes up toward the top of the driver’s front door window and a black barrel of a hand gun comes out quickly, which appears to point at (an officer’s) marked squad car. It appears there is a round fired as I believe I can see the expenditure of gases come off the handgun as it appears to whip back from the kickback of it being fired,” the complaint says.
Vang gets out of the car, and a bullet from an officer breaks the windshield. Officers fire several more shots, hitting Vang’s vehicle. Vang then points a handgun at his own head. After negotiations, Vang eventually drops the weapon, the complaint states.
