(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY – Preston Ruedinger knocked down a game-winning three-pointer with .5 seconds in overtime to lead the Green Bay men’s basketball team over Northern Kentucky 87-84 on the road Wednesday.
The Phoenix (13-12, 8-6) had three players score in double figures, led by C.J. O’Hara, who had a season-high 23 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Marcus Hall tacked on 15 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Caden Wilkins chipped in as well with 11 points.
Northern Kentucky (14-11, 6-8) was led by Donovan Oday’s 28 points, eight rebounds, and five steals. Tae Dozier added 20 points, five rebounds, and five blocks. LJ Wells also contributed with 13 points and two blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After jumping out to a 21-18 advantage, Green Bay went on a 10-0 run with 6:43 left in the first half, finished off by a three-pointer from Hall, to increase its lead to 31-18. Northern Kentucky fought back, with threes from Oday and Dozier to cut the Phoenix lead to 35-31 going into halftime.
Following intermission, Green Bay went on a 7-1 run, finished off by Wilkins’ three, to increase the lead to 42-32 with 17:51 to go in the contest. The Norse chipped away at the Phoenix lead before taking a 64-63 lead with 4:03 left. NKU led 72-68, with 12 seconds left, when O’Hara made one of two free throws to cut the lead to three. Green Bay had a team offensive rebound on the second free throw, which set up a Hall three to send the game into overtime at 72 all. Wilkins hit a three to give the Phoenix the lead at 84-83 with 28 seconds to go. Oday made one of two free throws to tie the game at 84 before Ruedinger’s game-winning three.

Green Bay returns home to face Detroit Mercy on Saturday at the Resch Center at 1 p.m. CST, before returning to the Kress Center on Thursday against Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday, which will be aired on ESPN2.
