GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The future of Northeast Wisconsin’s workforce explored careers at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Wednesday.
More than 2,600 sixth grade students from across the region will attend NWTC’s two-day STEM Fair in Green Bay.
It’s pegged as one of the largest STEM fairs in the area.
It gives students a chance to explore careers through hands-on, highly visual learning like launch rockets, ride on a hovercraft, make paper and place an IV in a simulated patient.
Students rotated through the different interactive stations led by NWTC faculty, staff and local employers.
Sarah Scharenbrock, manager of admissions, says they want to build excitement for these types of careers early on.
“Once they hit seventh and eighth grade and even high school, we’re already further developed in what we’re choosing for classes so at sixth grade, we’re still interested, we’re still intrigued and we’re still learning, so our goal is to get it in front of them earlier so that as they get older, they remember that this is an option for them,” she explained.
The fair also included careers in art, including photography and digital media.
