APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A civil trial in the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Tanna Togstad against Tony Haase – who was acquitted for her 1992 murder and that of Timothy Mumbrue – is likely at least two years away, attorneys said Wednesday.
Haase was acquitted in August for the 1992 murders of Togstad and Mumbrue at a home in rural Waupaca County. Shortly before the trial was concluded, Togstad’s family filed a civil lawsuit, seeking $17 million in damages.
During a court hearing Wednesday, the attorneys and Judge Vincent Biskupic discussed procedural and insurance coverage issues. The judge anticipates issuing a written ruling before the end of February.
While no trial date was set, attorneys told the court the believe it would need to be about two years from now. A two-week trial is being considered.
As he did at trial, Haase has denied the allegations he killed the couple.
