MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A defense technology company withdrew its proposal to purchase the former UW-Green Bay Marinette branch campus.
Earlier this month, Aurora Global Defense Systems submitted a proposal to acquire the theater, library and tech center buildings for its high-tech innovation hub.
In its proposal withdraw, the company wrote, in part:
After a thorough review of the public feedback, we recognize the importance of honoring the community’s prevailing opinion. Our company is committed to respecting the wishes of the people of Marinette, WI, regarding the future of this property.
In-person classes ended at the 36-acre campus in spring 2024.
Last year, the Marinette County board approved a plan to sell the more than 18-acre Max E. Peterson Fieldhouse to the Greater Marinette-Menominee YMCA.
The buildings on campus are owned by Marinette County, which has a lease agreement with UWGB that ends in 2042.
