MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A defense technology company is looking into purchasing the former UW-Green Bay Marinette branch campus.
In-person classes ended at the 36-acre campus in the spring of 2024.
Last year, the Marinette County board approved a plan to sell the more than 18-acre Max E. Peterson Fieldhouse to the Greater Marinette-Menominee YMCA. The fieldhouse is one of four buildings on the property.
Aurora Global Defense Systems submitted a proposal to acquire the theater, library and tech center buildings for $3; $1 per building.
Aurora’s proposal is to, “relieve the county of ongoing matienence liabilities while injecting high-tech employment opportunities into the local economy. We aim to secure major Federal contacts in robotics, AI, and drone technology, positioning Marinette as a hub for national defense innovation.”
The buildings on campus are owned by Marinette County, which has a lease agreement with UWGB that ends in 2042.
