OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Froedtert ThedaCare is opening its new Oshkosh hospital in less than two weeks.
“We are really excited to open this facility finally in Oshkosh. It’s been a long time coming,” said Lynn Detterman, Froedtert ThedaCare North Region president.
An open house was held Thursday for ThedaCare Medical Center-Oshkosh, which will start welcoming patients Jan. 19.
About the facility
The $84 million, 114,000-square-foot, three-story facility is located along the Fox River in the city’s downtown. Oshkosh’s other two hospitals are west of Interstate 41, while most of the city’s population lives east of the interstate.
“The health care facilities are west of 41, but the people live east of 41, and so we knew we wanted to be east of 41. And then we looked to see what would really benefit the Oshkosh community, and we thought building along the river and continuing that economic development that the city of Oshkosh already started,” said Detterman.
“This campus aligns with the redevelopment and revitalization efforts in the downtown riverfront and throughout our city neighborhoods,” said Rebecca Grill, Oshkosh city manager.
ThedaCare says it added a 28,000-square-foot third story to the original plans to “adapt to the changing needs of the community.”
The hospital includes:
- 24/7 emergency care
- Inpatient care
- Outpatient surgery
- Primary care
- Pediatrics
- Specialty care
- Drive-thru retail pharmacy
- Imaging services: CT, X-ray, ultrasound, mammography, MRI and nuclear medicine
- Lab services
What they’re saying
“Our investment is really a commitment to this community,” said Jenny Nikolai, vice president of ThedaCare-Oshkosh and Fond du Lac. “Again, it’s taking the time to understand what are the services that we provide today, where is care provided today and how do we fulfill our mission of helping each individual live their unique best life. Our investment in this community is a commitment to our long-term presence to support the Oshkosh community.”
The new facility will have about 60 jobs, including transfers.
Construction took nearly two years. The hospital is set to open Jan. 19.
ThedaCare merged with the Milwaukee-based Froedtert in 2023.
