As we head into the holiday break, let’s take a look at who
is sitting on top and in hot pursuit in the standings.
In the Bay Conference, Seymour is off to a 3-0 start (6-0
overall) with Xavier next at 2-1. West De Pere, Menasha and New London are all 1-1.
In the Big East Conference-North Division, Manitowoc
Lutheran is 4-1 with Hilbert 4-2. Reedsville and Howards Grove are next at 3-3.
In the Big East Conference-South Division, Sheboygan
Lutheran is 5-0 with Kohler at 4-1 and Oostburg at 3-0.
In the Central Wisconsin Conference -East Division
Iola-Scandinavia is 4-0 with Shiocton one-half game back at 3-0. Bonduel is
3-1.
In the East Central Conference, Kettle Moraine Lutheran and
Plymouth are both 3-0. Campbellsport is 2-1. In a side note, remember when the
East Central Conference was Ripon, Berlin, Little Chute, Winneconne, Omro,
Hortonville, Waupaca and Wautoma. I think it was a better conference then.
The Eastern Wisconsin Conference has Roncalli at 4-0,
Sheboygan Falls at 3-0, Chilton at 3-1 and Valders at 2-1.
The Fox River Classic Conference finds Ashwaubenon and De
Pere at 3-0. Bay Port and Green Bay Preble are both 2-1 with Sheboygan South
1-1.
The Fox Valley Association has Hortonville surprising folks
at 6-0 to lead the league. Kimberly is 5-0 with Neenah 4-0. Those three teams
have gained separation with Oshkosh North and Kaukauna next at 3-2.
Coleman and Crivitz lead the Marinette & Oconto
Conference at 4-0. Oneida Nation is next at 2-1.
Wrightstown and Luxemburg-Casco share the North Eastern
Conference lead at 3-0. Freedom is next at 3-1.
Finally, Southern Door tops the Packerland Conference at
4-0. Kewaunee and Sturgeon Bay follow at 3-0 and 2-1, respectively.
Now, here is this week’s Power 5 for the boys.
-
1)Hortonville – The Polar Bears just keep rolling
after a pair of convincing wins last week (78-43 against Appleton West and
71-44 over Appleton North). The Polar Bears play host Fort Atkinson in a
non-conference game on Saturday before returning to conference play on Friday,
Jan 3at Kimberly. I don’t think there will be enough room for
everyone who will want to see that game. -
2)Seymour – The Thunder stay in the No. 2 slot
after an 86-44 win over New London on Friday. Seymour has a pair of games
sandwiched between Christmas and New Year’s. They will face Appleton East in
the Sun Drop Classic at the Kress Center in Green Bay at 3:15 on Thursday and
then Medford at the same time and location on Friday. While Appleton East has
struggled, Medford should provide a good test for the Thunder as they come in
with a 5-1 record. -
3)Neenah – The Rockets keep rolling with their 6-0
overall record. They are in the midst of a long stretch of nothing but
practice. They handled Appleton East 79-44 on Tuesday, Dec. 17 and don’t play
again until Friday, Jan. 3 against Appleton North. They’ve won their games by
13, 38, 11, 31, 50 and 35. Lee Rabas has put together a very strong team. -
4)Wrightstown – The Tigers improved to 6-0 with a
68-48 win over Ashwaubenon on Saturday. Their wins also include a five-point
victory over highly-regarded Mineral Point and a three-point grinder over
Freedom. The Tigers have one game during the holiday break, playing Valders at
the Kress Center on Friday. -
5)Coleman – The Cougars crack the Power 5 with
their 6-0 which includes wins by 1, 36, 30, 19, 7 and 61 points. The Cougars
get to rest up until Jan. 7 when they host Crivitz. -
Knocking
on the door –
Xavier 5-1, West De Pere 5-1, Kohler 4-1, Shiocton 4-1,
Plymouth 5-1, Roncalli 5-1, De Pere 4-0, Bay Port 4-1, Sheboygan South 3-1,
Coleman 6-0, Crivitz 5-1, Oneida Nation 3-1, Luxemburg-Casco 4-1, Freedom 5-1,
Southern Door 4-1, Sheboygan Lutheran, Kimberly. -
