For the record, Todd pretends that he is an objective journalist, even though his repeated words and actions have shown him to be a partisan, pro-Democrat, anti-Trump opinion host. If that's what Todd wants to do, he should start being honest with his audience.
But Todd, to date, has not been honest. He claims to be objective, even though he takes shots at President Trump whenever he gets the chance.
And no, Mr. Todd, President Trump is not “surrendering” to the virus.
Rather, President Trump is recognizing reality as he looks at the big picture.
Death is a sad reality of pandemics, including the current pandemic. There have been deaths. There will be more deaths. Each one is incredibly sad, but that is the horrible consequence of a pandemic.
In an ideal world, the United States would not have these widespread issues with the Wuhan virus, but we have Communist China to blame on that front. (The CCP should be forced to pay for what they've done to the United States, by any means necessary.)
What was avoidable was the internal destruction of our nation's economy and the deprivation of law-abiding U.S. citizens' Constitutional rights.
Tragically, various state government overreactions to the virus, including that from Democrat Governor Tony Evers and his team in Wisconsin, ensured that we did compound our problems.
Not only do we have people dying from the China virus, but we also have an economy that's been massively harmed and a law-abiding citizenry that has been deprived of its rights and freedoms.
In an ideal world, we could ensure that no additional Americans die from the Wuhan virus, but that simply is not realistic. Even if we continued the current shutdowns in various states, people will still get the virus and people will still die from the virus.
People can contract the China virus just as easily, if not more easily, at a currently-open essential business as they can at a currently-closed “non-essential” business.
And if we keep these shutdowns in place for even longer, the economy will further suffer. More workers and small business owners will hit the financial point-of-no-return. That can be prevented, and it must be prevented.
If we wait until the virus is completely gone from U.S. society, which might never happen, there will be no United States to return to once this is done. Our economy will be in total ruin.
During such a time, our nation must balance public health and the economy, while always preserving the Constitutional rights of the law-abiding.
Thus, we must immediately lift “safer at home” orders and other similar orders, which never should have been handed down in the first place.
If individuals do not feel comfortable leaving home or reopening their businesses, those people certainly are not compelled to do so. They can remain at home, if they so choose. They can leave their businesses closed, if they so choose.
But give people that choice.
For those who want to live their lives freely and those who want to/need to reopen their businesses, allow them that opportunity.
Fortunately, that's what President Trump is now pushing for in this country. Hopefully, authoritarian governors, Democrat and Republican alike, bring an end to their unconstitutional power grabs and finally put their citizens first.
Looking at the big picture and acting in response to clearly viewing the big picture is not “surrendering.” I can assure you of that, Sleepy Eyes Chuck Todd.
