MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Manitowoc Public Library announced Friday it will no longer be charging daily overdue fines on late materials.
This change was approved by the library’s Board of Trustees in their 2026 budget.
“We recognize that charging fines undermines our mission. The elimination of overdue fines ultimately increases access to the Library and benefits our entire community,” said Executive Director Karin Adams in a news release.
We understand that life happens and sometimes people are late; there will no longer be a financial punishment due to a simple late return.
Approximately 76% of other public libraries in Wisconsin are now fine-free as part of an effort to expand access to library collections.
Manitowoc Public Library officials remind patrons that due dates for all materials still apply, and you will be charged for items that are damaged or not returned at all.
